A sports doctor in Toronto, Canada, is currently under investigation for allegedly prescribing more than just anti-inflammatories, as he said that he did after Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez’s hip surgery last year.

U.S. federal investigators have been trying to contact A-Rod as well as many other prestigious baseball players concerning this Canadian doctor, Anthony Galea. Alex Rodriguez confirmed that he has been made aware of the investigation of the doctor for the drug charges and plans to fully cooperate in any way needed with federal authorities.

According to the Associated Press, Galea said that he did not give human growth hormones to A-Rod nor any other athlete. He said that he did treat A-Rod after his hip surgery last year in March when he was experiencing inflammation in his hip and prescribed only anti-inflammatories.

Other athletes, such as Carlos Beltran, the outfielder for the New York Mets, confirmed last week with reporters that he had received treatments from Galea on his right knee last year, but never received any human growth hormone treatments from the Canadian doctor. He has also treated Tiger Woods and Dara Torres, but there has been no official word whether or not authorities have been in touch with them in regards to Galea’s drug charges.

Although Galea says that he has never given HGH to any athlete, it is a bit strange that his assistant was caught last year attempting to cross the border into the state of New York carrying HGH. His assistant has now been charged with the possession of HGH as well as Actovegin, which is an unapproved drug extracted from the blood of a calf and can be used for healing, while making the attempt to cross the U.S./Canadian border into the state of New York last September.

Rodriguez admitted last year that he had previously been using performance-enhancing drugs during the years from 2001 to 2003.
