World Cup Preliminary Roster Shockers for Holland and Italy
Ruud van Nistelrooy is out of the picture for the 30-man roster for Holland. Apparently, the coach didn’t choose him due to his long-term playing absence from the field. The last time that he played on the field was in 2008 with the Netherlands for the European Championship.
Veteran midfielder, Clarence Seedorf, also didn’t see his name on the roster this week for Holland. Initially, many sports books and fans considered him to be a long shot for making the team, but he is able to provide extensive leadership and skill when on the field as a veteran player. Talking to Seedorf, he actually expected the coach to call and offer him a position on the 30-man roster, but obviously, his number was never dialed.
Italy’s Luca Toni was another that didn’t see his name on Italy’s roster. He was the main striker in 2006 as well as in 2008 at the European Championship but had problems earlier this season at Bayern Munich. He returned on loan to Italy and his playing abilities had improved, which made many believe that he would make it to the World Cup with Italy; however, it must not have been enough to catch the coach’s eye.
