Doubtful About Nate McLouth But Optimistic of Jason Heyward
It appears that Nate McLouth of the Atlanta Braves and possible teammate Jason Heyward, who is at camp as a non-roster invitee, are not having a lot of luck at camp. McLouth is missing balls left and right with Heyward is hitting balls, but the balls are crushing parked vehicles causing insurance companies to be getting phone calls excessively.
Both men are outfielders and up until now, McLouth seemed to have a guaranteed season opener. He’s the veteran and should be more on top of his game than the 21-year-old newcomer, Heyward.
During a Minor League Game yesterday, McLouth was so terrible at batting that he one had one hit out of 14 possible hits. The other 13 were complete strikeouts. The rules even were tweaked so that in each inning, McLouth got an at-bat. Crazy, right? Of course, it is absurd!
If you were an executive at the Braves, or the Braves’ coach, wouldn’t you be worried? Well, they aren’t. If you ask me, it’s a good thing that Melky Cabrera has been brought in as the centerfielder fallback because if Nate McLouth keeps going at this pace, Cabrera’s going to be put in the game and McLouth is going to be out – not that it will be the first time with all those strikeouts!
Moving on to the youngster of the Braves’, Jason Heyward, although he is striking gold, he needs to watch where those balls are headed – parked vehicles! However, more than likely, he’ll have his name on that lineup card come opening day. Heyward appears to have some unusual self-assurance, but that is also what is helping him make that lineup card.
As of right now, Heyward appears to be the newest member of the Braves and will be showing his face often come opening day. Look out for him this year – I think he’s going to have a lot of potential, as long as he can keep his balls under control!
